Emmy-winning star Kirsty Alley passes away

Kirsty Alley, who won an Emmy for acting in "Cheers," has died

His children said in a post on Twitter that Alley had died of cancer

Alley's manager Donovan Daughtry confirmed the death in an email

children said, "As iconic as she was on screen, she was a wonderful mother and grandmother

She starred opposite Ted Danson as Rebecca Howe on the NBC sitcom "Cheers"

She joined the show at the height of its popularity following the exit of Shelley Long

Alley win the award for Best Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in 1991

Will pick up a second Emmy for Best Lead Actress in the TV movie "David's Mother"

Her debut was as a game show contestant on "The Match Game" and "Password"

Later made his film debut in "Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan"
