How to play Mega Millions?
A Mega Millions ticket costs $2 to play. To participate, players must select six numbers from two different pools: five “white” numbers ranging from 1 to 70, along with a “Mega Ball” number from 1 to 25. To win the jackpot, all six numbers chosen must match those drawn.
Jackpot winners have the option to receive their winnings in annual installments (the annuity option) or as a lump sum (the cash option). Opting for the annuity provides the full jackpot amount, while selecting the cash option results in a smaller sum. All winnings are stated before taxes.
Players who correctly predict some, but not all, of the numbers drawn can still win smaller cash prizes. In certain states, players have the option to pay an additional $1 to multiply non-jackpot winnings by two, three, four, or five times, depending on the “Megaplier” number chosen prior to the draw.
Tickets are available for purchase in every state in the US except Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. Players can also participate in the District of Columbia and the Virgin Islands. Mega Millions draws take place every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET / 8 p.m. PT.
