Sasha Banks remains one of the most sought-after free agents in the wrestling scene, and there’s a recent update on her status for the Royal Rumble.
Back in May 2022, Sasha Banks and Naomi made waves when they left their Women’s Tag Team Championships on John Laurinaitis’ desk before departing WWE. Laurinaitis, whose tenure with the company spanned 21 years, was subsequently let go by WWE in 2022 and was later named in a lawsuit against Vince McMahon.
After parting ways with WWE, Sasha, under the name Mercedes Moné, showcased her skills in New Japan Pro-Wrestling. However, she’s been sidelined due to an injury ever since losing the NJPW STRONG Women’s Championship to Willow Nightingale on May 21, 2023.
According to a WWE insider interviewed by Fightful Select, there’s talk about Sasha potentially returning at tomorrow’s Royal Rumble. However, the source emphasized that WWE isn’t keen on engaging in any “contract tampering” with her and expressed doubts about her appearing at the prestigious event tomorrow night.
WWE star Bayley comments on having one more match with Sasha Banks
Bayley recently shared her belief that she’s destined to have another match with Sasha Banks in the future.
Currently aligned with the Damage CTRL faction on SmackDown, Bayley’s leadership within the group has shifted since Iyo Sky claimed the WWE Women’s Championship at SummerSlam 2023. Bayley has set her sights on challenging Women’s World Champion Rhea Ripley if she emerges victorious in the Women’s Royal Rumble match scheduled for tomorrow night.
During an interview with Sports Illustrated, Bayley reflected on their memorable showdown at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn and expressed her conviction that she and The Boss are fated to square off once again in the ring.
“We’ll always be destined for one more match… Our next match will never be our last. We’re ‘The Brooklyn Girls’. We’re going to live on forever because of that match, and it’s something we can carry on forever,” said Bayley.
