“The Brothers Sun,” featuring the acclaimed Oscar-winning actor Michelle Yeoh, takes the lead in this crime drama with a touch of dark comedy. The storyline revolves around the Sun family, particularly younger brother Bruce Sun (played by Sam Song Li), who stumbles upon his family’s notorious past as Taiwanese gangsters. As older brother Charles (Justin Chien) returns to Los Angeles to protect Bruce and their mother Eileen (Yeoh), the eight-episode series, premiering on Jan. 4, promises action and another stellar performance from Yeoh.
Adding to the suspense, “Fool Me Once,” an eight-episode thriller from the U.K., landed on Netflix on Jan. 1. Based on the novel by American author Harlan Coben, the show follows Maya Stern (played by Michelle Keegan), a woman grieving her husband’s death. The plot takes a twist when Maya spots her supposedly deceased husband alive and well on a nanny cam, leading to a cascade of revelations as her niece and nephew investigate their mother’s death, unearthing hidden secrets.
Taking a different angle in the thriller category is the new docuseries “You Are What You Eat: A Twin Experiment.” This series delves into a Stanford University experiment comparing the diets of identical twins to understand which eating habits contribute to better cardiovascular health. Focusing on four twin pairs involved in the experiment, the show explores the differences when one twin adopts a vegan diet while the other sticks to meat consumption. While the study and the show suggest that the vegan diet is overall healthier, some viewers remain skeptical.
